304 / 304L Stainless Steel Plate

Stellanox Steel supplies premium-grade 304 / 304L Stainless Steel Plates, trusted across industries for their corrosion resistance, formability, and long-lasting durability. Known as the workhorse of austenitic stainless steels, 304 and its low-carbon variant 304L are used in everything from chemical processing to architectural structures.

These plates are available in a wide range of thicknesses and finishes and are suitable for applications requiring structural strength and cleanliness in corrosive environments.

What is 304 / 304L Stainless Steel Plate?

304 Stainless Steel Plate is an austenitic alloy composed of 18% chromium and 8% nickel, offering excellent corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties. 304L, the low-carbon version of 304, minimizes carbide precipitation during welding, making it more suitable for heavy gauge welded components.

Both 304 and 304L are non-magnetic in the annealed condition and maintain their strength across a wide temperature range. They are among the most widely used stainless steel plates globally, valued for their affordability, cleanliness, and weldability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Explore our FAQs for insights on materials, customization, and delivery.
What's the difference between 304 and 304L stainless steel plates?
304L contains less carbon than 304, offering better weldability and resistance to intergranular corrosion.
Can 304/304L be used for marine applications?
Yes, but only in non-submerged or splash zones. For full marine exposure, 316/316L is preferred.
Is 304 stainless steel magnetic?
Not in the annealed condition, but may become slightly magnetic after cold work.
Is post-weld heat treatment needed for 304L plates?
No. That’s one of the primary benefits of using 304L—no need for post-weld annealing in most cases.
